24/04: Listening session: Sudanese Resistance Music
Resisting through Rhythm. Protesting through Power. Connecting through Community.
April 15 marks two years since the start of the civil war in Sudan, a conflict that has caused immense suffering but has also sparked resilience and hope. In light of this, we are organizing an intimate and inspiring evening to explore the revolutionary power of music in Sudan and across the African diaspora. Music has the unique ability to be both joyful and defiant, serving as a powerful tool for resistance that transcends borders, languages, and generations.
Researcher Saffa Khalil will guide us through the history of revolutionary music in Sudan, sharing the stories, struggles, and songs that have defined the nation’s fight for freedom. The evening will include a listening session curated by Saffa, featuring samples of Sudanese resistance music. Through these tracks, we’ll delve into Sudan’s history, resistance movements, the impacts of war, and how music has been used as a form of protest and a unifying force. Join us as we honor the role of revolutionary music in carrying voices and messages across oceans and borders, bringing hope and igniting change from Sudan to the world.
