30/3: ‘Transition ceremony: CAPE x NL’
This week marks your final opportunity to experience the powerful and thought-provoking exhibition ‘CAPE x NL: Whispers & Shouts.’ While the exhibition officially concludes, we’re thrilled to announce that the Camissa Museum has chosen to preserve a portion of it as part of their permanent collection, ensuring its legacy continues to inspire visitors for years to come.
To commemorate this significant moment, we invite you to join us on March 30th for a special guided tour led by the talented artists and co-curators Nancy Jouwe and Elise Fernandez. Gain deeper insight into the themes, stories, and creative processes behind the works as they share their perspectives and experiences.
The tour will be followed by a meaningful ‘transition ceremony,’ celebrating the exchange of knowledge, culture, and artistic connection that this exhibition has cultivated. This special event will include contributions from featured artists Bradley van Sitters, Carine Zaayman, Adrian van Wyk, Charles Palm, and co-curators Nancy Jouwe and Elise Fernandez. Together, we’ll reflect on the impact of this exhibition and honor the creative voices that brought it to life. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with the art, the artists, and the community it has inspired.
Whispers and Shouts
CAPE x NL is a temporary project at the Camissa Museum, located in the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa's oldest colonial building, built by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The site carries a painful history of displacement, enslavement, and oppression. We hear the cries of the brutalized and whispers of untold stories seeking to be heard. This transnational collaboration by The Black Archives, Nancy Jouwe, and Elise Fernandez, on behalf of the Camissa Museum, examines the legacy of Dutch slavery in the Cape. It features unique archives, historical narratives, and artworks by Adrian van Wyk, Bradley van Sitters, Farren van Wyk, Carine Zaayman, and Neo Muyanga.
