Introduction to the archive
The growing archives currently holds over 20,000 unique historical books, documents, photos, films, and artifacts related to Black history in the Netherlands. We aim to make the archive accessible to a wide audience.
Key topics from the archives, such as racism, slavery, former colonies, and Black emancipation, are both relevant and underexposed. Yet, everyone should be aware of this aspect of Surinamese, Caribbean, African, and Dutch history.
Our volunteers and shop
We can always use additional support for the indexing and digitization of The Black Archives. You can make this possible by donating or making a purchase in our webshop (only ships to the Netherlands and on location, you can also make a donation or a purchase). You can also register as a volunteer by contacting us via [email protected]
